Study visit to Vrhnika (Slovenia)

Study visit was attended by seven representatives of Croatian project partners and representatives of the Slovenian project partners.

The visit began in the central kindergarten unit Vrhnika where, at the instigation of the "Ecologists without borders", they are using only washable diapers, thus reducing their ecological footprint and reducing waste generation. The kindergarten is also trying to stimulate the local economy by ordering food products from local producers who use organic farming methods, which also improves the quality of children's nutrition. In addition, for laundry and cleaning only environmentally friendly products are used, which are way better for health of children attending kindergarten.

After a tour of the kindergarten, participants also visited the newly built (2007) low-energy building kindergarten Vrhnika (2 units), built with the help of co-financing of EU funds, arranged a wonderful educational "sensory garden" in which the children, with the help of educators, grow fruits, vegetables and herbs. The garden is surrounded by a pond with fish.

After visiting the kindergarten, the representatives visited "Depó" – a re-use center, led by the Vrhnika waste management company in which they sell used and refurbished items, extracted from waste streams.

After that the participants visited the sorting facility in Vrhnika, which is owned by PUP-Saubermacher d.o.o.
